The heated garments have small wires build into them. These then heat up when a low electric charge is passed through.
There are two main types of heated clothing:
3 Volt / 7 Volt Battery
These are the easiest to use and most common type of heated clothing and are powered by rechargeable batteries. The most popular items we sell are the heated gloves and jackets.
Battery Heated Gloves and Mittens
The heated gloves and mittens have a battery in each glove and the temperature is controlled from either the battery or a button on the glove.
Check out our Heated Glove Guide for more information.
Heated Jackets and Vests
The wiring for the jackets and vests is concentrated in rectangular patches to focus the heat on fixed areas. Most items have one pad on the back and two pads on the front, one on each side of the chest.
The battery is stored in a storage pocket accessed from one of the ordinary zipped pockets. Extended life batteries are available for the Gerbing, Alpha Heat and Ansai Mobile Warming vests and jackets.
Battery Heated Socks and Footwear
We have a range of items to help heat cold feet including heated socks, heated insoles and heated slippers. We have insoles which heat the toes to socks that heat the whole of the sole.
Check out our Heated Sock and Insole Guide for more information.
12 Volt
These are designed for use with motorcycles, ATVs or snowmobiles and draw their power from the vehicle's battery. As these use a higher voltage than 7v systems they are more powerful and, therefore, heat a larger area at a higher temperature.
Any of the12v item can be used their own, but they are also designed to be used together. For instance:
Most 12v heated jackets come with build in power cords that come out at the wrists to power heated gloves and
Most 12v heated jackets come with build in power cords that come out at the ankles to power heated socks or insoles.
All 12v Heated Socks and Insoles
If you have multiple items connected to one controller they will all be set to the same temperature. Purchasing a dual controller will allow you to have different heating zones.
Please check if the 12v item you are purchasing comes with a temperature controller. If not, we recommend that you purchase one as without the controller the garment will be on full power all the time.
We do sell batteries for the 12v clothing but due to the power required to heat them they are bulkier than the 7v batteries and do not last as long as the 7v on a single charge.
